The bus ride from Luang Prabang to Vientiane is the toughest ride I have had. An estimated 8 hours ride turned out to be full on 12 hours of crowded, choppy and sickness ride. There is no bus schedule in Laos, the guest house owner advise me to show up at the bus station at "around noon". Having spent 3 hours sitting on the bench, a '70s Hyundai bus finally shows up. With gunned army on board too! I heard the story from Jay few days ago that there is a anti-government group attacks the long distance bus, jumping from the jungle at the middle of nowhere. So now we got a guard on the bus...
The whole ride was on twisty mountain road. With only 90 minutes more to the destination, the bus decided to break down, yes at the middle of no where! Now the guard looks very serious and standing outside the bus hold the riffle, while the bus driver trying to fix the engine.
Arriving Vientiane at 1:30am (!), most, if not all the guesthouse are closed. So the Tuk Tuk driver driving me around the town to find a place to sleep. Lucky one of the guesthouse is still opened, but the owner said it is FULL! Hm... I offered him $2USD to sleep at the front desk, fitting myself into the most weird shaped couch. It feels so luxurious after the long haul. I am so spent...
I love this ride! arr.. No.
